Levelling up – new Volvo Penta IPS Professional Platform set to sail in 2025

To continue their drive for premium solutions, Volvo Penta has a targeted release of the next-generation Inboard Performance System (IPS) professional platform in 2025. Keeping sustainability in mind, the new system will level up the integrated helm-to-propeller for unparalleled comfort and performance for marine vessels.

Volvo Penta IPS

Designed for mega yachts, this evolution of the Volvo Penta IPS is set to be a powerful yet flexible solution with top speeds of 12-40 knots, vessel type dependant. With preparation for a range of energy sources, this innovative advancement will offer the trademarked helm-to-propeller experience to a wider range of vessels than ever before.

As the largest, most powerful platform yet, the IPS includes a larger marine drive – the Volvo Penta IPS 40. Complete with a dual power input concept to increase the efficiency of power to the water. Powered by two Volvo Penta D13 engines, compliant with the latest IMO Tier III standards, the system is adaptable for combustion engines running on renewable fuels, for hybrid solutions or fully electric superyachts, and is available for instillation as twin, triple or quadruple drivelines to accommodate four to eight power sources, all integrated into the Volvo Penta IPS. The system also features a new counter-rotating propeller series in bronze.

Having been in operation for almost 20 years, the foundational technology has proven manoeuvrability and propulsion capabilities with results of up to a 40% longer cruising range, 20% higher top speed and faster acceleration compared to traditional inboard shaft installation.
