Raising the Bar: Training Crew to be Expert Bartenders

PrivatSea recently held a bartending training session for the PrivatSea crew ahead of the new season. The course was split over five days and covered everything from cocktail mixing to drink presentation.


At PrivatSea, we understand an exceptional experience requires more than premium products and environments—it’s about seamless, sophisticated hospitality from well trained and happy crew. One of the most impactful ways to enhance onboard service is through professional crew training.

The training was held at the Bar Academy in Athens, Greece, who run training from beginners to Masterclasses across a range of skills. All sessions were held with experienced instructors and sessions designed to perfect the participants knowledge and skills in a bar setting. Additionally, the course focused on developing the participants speed and efficiency, with the quality of service needed on a Superyacht in mind.

Over the five days the Bartender Course covered:

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF BARTENDING

Understanding bar tools, workstation organisation, and the rich history of the bartending profession.

SPIRITS, LIQUEURS & COCKTAILS

Identifying distinct flavours and mastering cocktail pairing.

MIXOLOGY & CRAFT COCKTAIL TECHNIQUES

Learning advanced preparation methods, garnishing artistry, and presentation skills.

ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION

A rigorous final evaluation to guarantee top-tier service standards.

With expert-led instruction, practical skills development, and the passion to learn, our crew successfully passed the course with merit. At PrivatSea, we consider training is an essential part of being a Superyacht crew member, and while it occurs continually internally from Hotel Managers or Chief Stewards/Stewardesses it’s invaluable to use training courses to upskill staff to excel to highest standard.
