Meet Now Captain: George Papafaklis

Can you tell us about your new responsibilities as Captain?

As the Captain of a 55m private yacht with 12 crew members, my core responsibility is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of the guests and crew while delivering exceptional voyages to extraordinary destinations. From meticulous planning to fostering a harmonious onboard atmosphere, I aim to create seamless, luxurious journeys that leave indelible memories of unparalleled elegance and refinement.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I’m most looking forward to the opportunity to merge my passion with my profession. Pursuing my hobby as a career is a dream come true, and it keeps me incredibly motivated. Every day presents a new challenge and opportunity for growth, which excites me to no end. The prospect of exploring extraordinary destinations while delivering exceptional experiences to the guests and crew fills me with a sense of fulfilment and joy.

What challenges have you faced on your career path to Captain? And how did you overcome them?

One of the main challenges on my path to becoming a Captain was acquiring the necessary experience and qualifications. Overcoming these involved years of dedicated learning and gaining practical experience at sea. Another challenge was mastering leadership and communication skills to manage a diverse crew effectively. I achieved this through continuous improvement and leading by example. In essence, perseverance and a commitment to excellence have been key in overcoming obstacles on my journey to becoming a Captain.

How will you help to develop your team and inspire the next generation of captains?

I’m deeply committed to fostering a culture of teamwork and mutual support within my team. Through mentorship and collaboration, we strive to develop each member’s skills and potential. By leading with humility and sharing our collective experiences, we aim to inspire future generations of captains to work together towards common goals.
